This is part 3 of a 3 part series on How to Create a Values Driven Business

In part 1 you determined what your core company values REALLY are

In part 2 you turned words into deeds by answering 2 critical questions

  • “WHY is this value important to my business?” and
  • “How will we integrate, communicate and demonstrate this value in our business?”

In part 3 you will determine WHAT you need to do as the business owner to actually make it happen so that your core company values drive every aspect of your business.

Step 1: Implementation

Look at your responses to Question 2 for each value statement from Part 2 of this Series How to Create a Values Driven Business  “How do we integrate, communicate and demonstrate this value in our business?”

For each dot point you have created under this question for each core company value answer these FIVE questions:

  1. What are the things that need to happen to make each dot point TRUE?
  2. Who will do it?
  3. When will it be done by?
  4. How will we know when it is done?
  5. How will we measure its effectiveness?

Example.

Core Value: Innovation

How do we integrate, communicate and demonstrate this value in our business?
  • We encourage and support our clients to look at problems from new perspectives, to try different solutions, to think outside the box; not for the sake of being different but because if we keep doing the same thing we are likely to get the same results.
  • We encourage our team to be constantly looking for new ways of doing things to get better results. All our team are given time every month to work on new ideas.
  • We hold regular innovation meetings where every idea is encouraged, no matter how wild or crazy it sounds because we know that some of the best solutions can come from thinking outside the box.
  • What are the things that need to be done to make each dot point TRUE?
  • Who will do it?
  • When will it be done by?
  • How will we know when it is done?
  • How will we measure its effectiveness?

Step 2:  Review

  • Survey your employees about how well they think the company is doing in upholding the core values and related behaviours. Ask them to reflect on the company as a whole and their immediate team. Once the results are in, engage them in discussions about how to improve.
  • Survey key clients about how well they think the company is doing in upholding the core values and related behaviours. Once the results are in, engage them in discussions about how to improve.

When you can answer TRUE with absolute certainty for every statement then you will have created a truly values driven business.
